A research project led by specialists from Virgen Macarena University Hospital and the Andalusian Center for Molecular Biology and Regenerative Medicine (CABIMER) has received a €100,000 donation from the María Jesús Vera Foundation and ABU Group. The project aims to investigate the role of myeloid-derived suppressor cells (MDSCs) in metastatic breast cancer, with the goal of developing new immunological strategies to improve both patient outcomes and quality of life.
The study, entitled “Multi-omics Characterization of Myeloid-Derived Suppressor Cells in Advanced Breast Cancer,” brings together the research teams led by Dr. Luis de la Cruz and Dr. Patricia Altea at CABIMER. The project makes use of state-of-the-art infrastructure for metabolomic analysis, clinical biochemistry, and patient-derived organoid testing. Its ultimate objective is to identify biomarkers that will enable clinicians to stratify patients according to their immune profiles and tailor treatments to improve survival in advanced stages of breast cancer.
