The date has been set for the 5th María Jesús Vera Foundation Charity Dinner: 24 October.

adminadminAugust 25, 2025July 16th, 2026

Next Friday, 24 October, Seville will once again show its solidarity. The María Jesús Vera Foundation will hold its 5th Charity Dinner at the Real Club Pineda, an event that has become one of the most important social and charitable events of the year in the city. The goal: to raise funds for an ambitious and promising research project on metastatic breast cancer being developed jointly by Cabimer (Andalusian Centre for Molecular Biology and Regenerative Medicine) and the Virgen Macarena University Hospital.

This fifth edition has a clear purpose: to promote science that gives life, time and hope to those who today face a disease that still has no cure. Breast cancer is the leading cause of cancer death in women worldwide, and when it reaches its metastatic stage, the five-year survival rate drops to 32%. This project focuses on a key aspect: myeloid-derived suppressor cells (MDSCs), which the tumour uses to evade the immune system and continue growing. Understanding and halting this mechanism could open the door to new, more effective immunological treatments.

The research is led by two leading figures in the field: Dr. Luis de la Cruz, head of the Translational Research in Cancer Immunology and Immunotherapy group at the Virgen Macarena Hospital, and Dr. Patricia Altea Manzano, head of the Metabolic Regulation and Signalling in Cancer group at Cabimer.
