The “SYNERGYxDM2” project, involving Dr. Alejandro Martín-Montalvo, Principal Investigator at the Andalusian Center for Molecular Biology and Regenerative Medicine (CABIMER), has received the IX AstraZeneca Foundation Young Scientists Award in the Cardiovascular, Renal and Metabolism category. The awards were presented on 16 October in Madrid by the AstraZeneca Foundation, in collaboration with the Carlos III Health Institute (ISCIII).
Coordinated by Dr. Beatriz Merino Antolín of the University of Valladolid–Institute of Biomedicine and Molecular Genetics (IBGM) and the Valladolid Biomedical Research Institute (IBIoVALL), the SYNERGYxDM2 project aims to develop new therapeutic combinations to improve the management of type 2 diabetes and reduce its complications. The project focuses on innovative, personalized treatment strategies designed to improve patient health outcomes.
The consortium also includes Dr. Alejandro Martín-Montalvo Sánchez, affiliated with CABIMER, the Spanish National Research Council (CSIC), the CSIC Metabolic Diseases Network, and the Center for Biomedical Research on Diabetes and Associated Metabolic Diseases (CIBERDEM), as well as Dr. Izortze Santin Gómez from the University of the Basque Country (EHU) and the Biobizkaia Health Research Institute.
Under this year’s theme, “A Calling That Changes Lives,” the AstraZeneca Foundation reaffirmed its commitment to supporting young researchers whose dedication to science is advancing medical knowledge and developing innovative solutions to improve people’s lives.
