Description
Post-translational modifications of proteins are essential for cellular physiology. In recent decades, the covalent modification of the ubiquitin-like modifier (SUMO) polypeptide has gained significant importance. This is because it is a modification essential for life and closely linked to cancer. Therefore, precisely elucidating its mechanisms of action at the molecular level is of enormous relevance, as it allows for the rational and effective design and application of new therapeutic interventions and diagnostic tools. We intend to study, on the one hand, defined transcription factors and their modification by SUMO, and on the other hand, SUMO-specific proteases. Both groups are related to cancer and differentiation, which is supported by our results and those of other groups. Precisely elucidating their functions represents a valuable advance in knowledge, not only in the academic field related to developmental biology and cancer, but also in the biomedical and clinical fields.
